The winds of change seem to be blowing through the Yankees. And really, the question should be—if not now, then when? With sad losses piling up and the deja vu moment of the errors, a major change was only waiting to happen. And this time, it may be DJ LeMahieu on the outside looking in.
Turns out that Yankees manager Aaron Boone has confirmed that Jazz Chisholm Jr. will officially be sliding back to second base—his natural position. The news came directly from Boone via Talkin Yanks on X. And while it might seem like a routing change, it carries major implications.
And here, the return of Chisholm to second base means one thing—DJ LeMahieu’s role is not guaranteed.

And here is the real kicker—Jazz had hinted this weeks ago. “Everybody knows I’m a second baseman. Of course, I want to play second base, but whatever it takes to help the team win. If that’s what the team chooses, that’s what I have to do. I don’t write the lineups. You feel me?” And now he is getting that wish. And offensively, Chisholm has been a bright spot. He is hitting. 245 with a .341 OBP and .500 slugging. He has already blasted 15 home runs, driven in 32 runs, and added spark to the lineup.
As for DJ? It’s tough. He is a respected player, but he is seen playing his time now. Now the Yankees open a three-game series against the Mariners at T-Mobile Park. All eyes, for sure, will be on Judge as he squares off with MLB home run leader Cal Raleigh. But make no mistake- everyone will be looking at the infield reset.
What’s your perspective on:
Is DJ LeMahieu's time with the Yankees coming to an end with Jazz Chisholm's return to second base?
Have an interesting take?
New York Yankees fans applaud the infield reset
One fan summed up the move, saying he likes Jazz at 2nd base much better than DJ. And they are far from alone. New York Yankee fans have been vocal about DJ LeMahieu’s struggles, and with manager Aaron Boone now saying there are no plans to use him at third base, calling it a physical challenge, many see this as the right thing. With Jazz at second, the Yankees are making the necessary infield shifts to spark that consistency.

One fan kept it simple, saying it is about time. And it makes sense, because Chisholm Jr. looked out of place at third base. He battled shoulder soreness and racked up errors, and that frustrated everyone, from fans to him and even the team. With the all-star now sliding back to his natural home, the move feels overdue. Fans are simply glad the team is prioritizing Jazz’s health and the stability of the team.

Another user said, “That’s good news, and it does feel like it.” The Yankees, for sure, will start to look more like themselves. And this is what everyone wants, given the rough stretch they have been navigating through, right? Plus, on paper, it looks best. Oswald Peraza will slide into third. Sure, he’s not flashy, but he brings that experience and steadiness, and even if his bat doesn’t make much noise, it is notable. Plus, with the trade deadline coming, more changes could be on the horizon.
An user mentioned, “Boone is an absolute genius 🙄”, but honestly, it looked more like a sarcastic remark than a compliment. But Boone has been getting absolutely pummeled by fans, with many claiming that he is too soft on his players. He cannot be stern about things. Ken Rosenthal came through to mention that in today’s age, no one is a fiery manager like before. The players end up leaving if a public diss is what managers end up doing. For sure, if changes are not seen, Boone will be pointed at with more fingers.
In a rather obvious fashion, a fan mentioned that this decision cost the New York Yankees the lead. And it is true, there was a time when the Yankees were comfortably leading. Look at them now; they are behind even the Toronto Blue Jays. They are in the third position in the third, and for a team with a payroll like theirs and with the stars as theirs, this is not acceptable. And the bright lights of New York and the fans are not so forgiving here.
