The 2023 season has not had the best of intentions for the New York Yankees. After going through some serious ups and downs, including player injuries, things finally seem to be looking up. With some team members missing in action and some still getting used to playing in MLB, it has been a rollercoaster ride. Having had a good start, Anthony Volpe seems to be struggling a bit right now. In the recent Yankees vs Tampa Bay Rays game, however, he shone. But one player that stole the spotlight was Anthony Rizzo.

The Bronx Bombers beat the Rays 6-5 in an edge-of-the-seat type game. It was already a special night for Rizzo with his Star Wars “Mandalorian” bobblehead night. And he marked the game by helping his team beat their division toppers.

Until the eighth inning, it seemed like the Bronx Bombers would face yet another gut-wrenching loss. Rizzo’s first home run of the night was the only offense the team could muster up, at least until the fourth. But then in the eighth, the first baseman hit the 22nd multi-homer game of his career and the dugout was revived. Yankee Stadium finally had Bronx fans cheering.

“It was electric tonight,” Rizzo said post-game. “There was extra juice behind the fans; we recognized that right away. I think this division is really good for the game right now; it’s a dogfight every night. I feel like as this season goes on, none of these teams in the division will back down, that’s for sure.”

Not only that, but in another interview, the Yankees star thanked the city of New York for making his time in pinstripes special.

Bronx fans are happy at finally getting a win

To say that Yankees fans were ecstatic would be an understatement. Add to the fact that it was Star Wars night, so everyone showed up in full franchise regalia. The stadium was peppered with Han Solo, Princess Leia, Darth Vader, and other character cosplays. Adding to the theme, ‘Star Wars Theme/Cantina Band’ by Meco was played in the background before the game.

Since the bobblehead was inspired by the Mandalorian, baseball Twitter reiterated the clan creed.

Many applauded Rizzo for his performance.
