At this point in time, the New York Yankees are not dealing with one issue but multiple issues. Be it the injuries of their key players or their struggle in the infield. Nothing seems to be working for the Aaron Boone-led team at the moment. Most recently, when playing against the New York Mets, an error of play led to mockery from baseball fans.

Luckily, the error did not cause the Bronx Bombers to concede any runs, but it didn’t go unnoticed. Fans have criticized the infielders and shown largely negative reactions to the poor defensive play.

New York Yankees fans show displeasure as Gleyber Torres makes a defensive error

Gleyber Torres is having a good season overall. The Yankees’ second baseman is leading all AL second basemen in home runs. Furthermore, his batting has proven to be a clutch player at times. But he is struggling at the moment and recently made a defensive blunder during a game. It happened during the Bombers’ recent contest against the New York Mets. Torres fumbled what should have been a routine grounder in the third inning. Furthermore, when Anthony Volpe collected it, he made an overthrow to first base. Luckily, a run was not scored on that particular play. Talkin’ Yanks shared a video of the blunder on Twitter.

In a Tweet, they said, “LMAOOOOOOO”, seemingly amused by the chaos in the defense. After Torres’ error, Volpe calmly collected the ball and made a wild overthrow. This could have cost the Bombers as well, but luckily, other fielders were alert and prevented a run from being scored.

The reactions to this blunder have been mainly negative. 

Some fans criticized the Yankees’ infield with some sarcastic comments and jibes.

Other fans asked that Torres be traded.

But despite being down 5-1 at one point during this game, the Yankees won it 7-6. It was a massive comeback victory as the Bombers miss their captain Aaron Judge through injury. The team managed to get the runs on the board to secure a much-needed win.

Anthony Volpe is in poor form at the moment

Although Gleyber Torres is the focus of this latest defensive blunder, Anthony Volpe also made a mistake. This adds pressure as his batting has been underwhelming as of late. Although he is a rookie, the inconsistencies are getting tough to ignore. But team owner Hal Steinbrenner is backing the youngster despite a rough season so far. It will be interesting to see how he and Torres play going forward.
