New York Yankees have gone through many eras. The franchise has witnessed the rise and fall of many players that have become associated with it. Among them is Alex Rodriguez, former shortstop & third baseman. When the truth behind A-Rod’s PED usage came to light in 2009, many turned their backs on him. They felt the betrayal was so utterly deep that they couldn’t possibly see Rodriguez in the same light anymore. But there were also some who stood by him, including Johnny Damon.

Damon had a three-year stint with the Yankees from 2006 to 2009 and he became teammates with Rodriguez. But the duo had actually been friends much longer than that. And despite controversial moments in both of their lives, they continue to maintain that friendship today. In fact, the former teammates are celebrating Friday with a Yankees moment.

If one is a social media regular, one must know the common trends that users follow. Popular hashtags often combine words with days of the week – bonus points if they’re alliterating. One of them is Flashback Friday, a second chance of sharing old content if they forgot Throwback Thursday. And for this particular Friday, Johnny Damon had a special picture.

The former outfielder posted a photo of himself at Yankee Stadium, surrounded by fellow men in pinstripes. He is in the air, getting a high five from Robinson Cano. And around him also stands Rodriguez and ex-team captain Derek Jeter. The picture was captioned, “Feeling that Friday energy and ready to conquer the day! Let’s go 💪”

Damon shared the picture on his Instagram story as well, which A-Rod later re-shared on his own account.

The former outfielder stood in outspoken support for his friend when he went through the steroid scandal. He admitted that Rodriguez had done something wrong and he didn’t condone it. But at the same time, the two had been friends for a long time, “so I’m going to support him and try to help him through this time,” Damon said back then.

But in a later interview, he also expressed relief that his life had not taken the turn that Rodriguez’s had. “It’s a soap opera,” Damon told The News. “It always has been with Alex. I’m just glad I get to sleep at night knowing I never got involved with that stuff.”

But despite everything, their friendship is still clearly going strong today!
