One of the brightest stories of 2023 was the emergence of the Martian – Jasson Dominguez. In his brief appearance for the New York Yankees, the rookie laid off a few fireworks for the fans. But just when everyone started dreaming about the future, he got injured and was forced to get Tommy John surgery. Now a picture has come out of Dominguez from the Steinbrenner Field in Tampa and it has left the Yankee Nation wondering what just happened to their Martian.

While most rejoiced at the scene of Dominguez returning to training, few noticed that he had gained a few pounds. Though it is common for players to gain weight during the offseason, especially if they’re injured like “The Martian”, fans were still surprised to see the 20-year-old sporting a beard and looking a little bulkier.

In his brief 8 game appearance, Dominguez had hit 4 home runs and had a ridiculous OPS of .980. Fans were elated and relieved as they realized the Pinstripes finally had a hard slugger to accompany Aaron Judge. But “The Martian’s” injury cut short that celebration. But that doesn’t mean the fans aren’t looking forward to seeing the slugger’s return. So when a picture of Dominguez with Oswaldo Cabrera got posted, it immediately went viral on various Yankees forums.

While one can see that Dominguez’s progress is going relatively well with the player off braces! But what caught everyone’s eyes was the increased bulk of the slugger. Also, his beard gave fans another reason to question the Yankees’ no-beard policy.

While increased weight was expected due to his surgery and lack of training after that, the sight of Dominguez was surprising. But with the player still quite far from total fitness, we might see him in his best shape when he finally makes his comeback. As of now, most reports predict a summer 2024 return, right around the All-Star break.
