Let’s be honest—when you think of the New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox doing business together, your brain probably short-circuits a little. And it’s no surprise, right? They are the most iconic rivalry in baseball history. It’s a past filled with centuries of drama and even a curse! You are not supposed to see them working on their phones together. But in the past few seasons, these arch-rivals have found common ground to trade, at least, and they have swapped players. Like Boston sent Alex Verdugo to New York last season, and before that, Adam Ottavino headed to Fenway. Then, the Yankees also traded minor league catcher Carlos Narvaez to Boston.

Now, another name is in the mix, and this name might raise more eyebrows than the names above.

According to Joel Sherman of the New York Post, the Yankees are looking at David Hamilton. The 27-year-old utility infielder is known for being versatile, but it’s a surprising target to be honest.

Hamilton has had a rough campaign with a .174 batting average and a .505 OPS. He even had to make a trip to AAA before being recalled because of the injuries. However, in a way, it makes sense because of his defensive reliability at second base and his game-changing speed. It offers the Yankees the postseason depth that the team is looking for. Sure, he can’t carry the offense, but as a late-game glove or even as a pinch runner, he could be a weapon.

Now the million-dollar question is whether the Boston Red Sox would be willing to send Hamilton to their rival, given it’s mid-season playoff hunt now. We will find out soon, but for now, the Yanks just did another deal.

New York Yankees send Carlos Carrasco to the Braves

With just days left until the trade deadline, the New York Yankees have made several deals. Be it the Ryan McMahon deal or the Amed Rosario one. They also made a subtle but strategic move, sending right-hander Carlos Carrasco to the Atlanta Braves. This is in exchange for either a player to be named later or for cash considerations. It was first reported by Jack Curry of the YES Network, and it addresses a pressing need in Atlanta.

Atlanta Braves are now struggling for pitching depth, and their top five starters—Chris Sale, Spencer Strider, Reynaldo Lopez, Grant Holmes, and Spencer Schwellenbach—are all on the IL. Carrasco is now the latest addition for them, and he will be joining Erick Fedde as part of the Braves’ patchwork solution heading into August.

Carrasco, 38 years old, began his campaign with the Yankees after signing a minor league deal back in February. It was only the injuries to Gerrit Cole and Luis Gil that opened the door for him.

However, his struggles were almost immediate. In eight appearances, he posted a 5.91 ERA with 25 strikeouts over 32 innings. Then he was designated for assignment in May and sent to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, where he has since managed a 3.27 ERA in 11 outings. And sure, he was recalled in June, but he never regained his foothold, and his name never surfaced as a big league option even though New York needed rotation help.

Now he will get a fresh start with the Braves. Over his 15-year MLB career, Carrasco has a 4.18 ERA in over 1,673 innings. Not exactly attention-grabbing, but for sure, he can help shape Atlanta’s playoff push with his experience.
