After continuous disappointments, the Bronx may find joy in a star player’s comeback. World Series champion pitcher Jordan Montgomery stole the spotlight after a remarkable performance throughout the playoffs. Now that Montgomery is a free agent, MLB clubs will be after the pitcher who stood his own against the Houston Astros. The big question: will the player in question go back to an old team or start anew in a different city?

The 30-year-old started his baseball journey with the New York Yankees but after a tough few years, the team traded him to the St. Louis Cardinals. However, the Cards again traded him to bolster their farm system in 2023. That’s how Montgomery landed in Texas but is ready to leave.

Right after winning his first World Series championship, Jordan Montgomery chose free agency, for the first time in his career, rather than staying in Texas. The left-handed pitcher is reportedly preferring former teams that he played with. Rumor has it that Montgomery may go to St Louis or the Bronx and after a brilliant October display, who wouldn’t want him?

The slugger spent most of his career in the Bronx after being drafted by the Yankees in the fourth round of the 2014 MLB June Amateur Draft. Debuting in 2017, 2022 was the last the Pinstripes saw of him but fans now hope for a comeback. The club could certainly benefit from a strong starter.

“Starter Jordan Montgomery’s stock has risen sharply with his stellar performance since joining the Rangers and should be in line for a fat payday with his former teams, the (St. Louis Cardinals) and Yankees, expected to pursue him,” writes USA Today’s Bob Nightengale. Could free agency possibly be a potential reunion from both sides?

After a terrible season both offensively and defensively, the club is hunting for pitchers like Jordan Montgomery to upgrade the rotation and emerge dominant. While Gerrit Cole leads the bullpen, the Bombers need more power on the mound, especially with Domingo German’s comeback uncertain.

Who’s a better option than the one they let go, who has suddenly risen to the top? It might be a powerful reunion if the pitcher joins hands with Cy Young-winner-to-be Gerrit Cole to upgrade the rotation outside the ace. 

Apparently, it seems like Jordan’s baseball journey could be back to a place where it all began, the Bronx. Fans must be waiting to see this potential comeback and what next comes to the Yankees chapter.
