Usually, there are incidents of people sleeping through an earthquake. While that in itself is a massive anomaly; ever thought of playing through a quake? Precisely, playing baseball through the entire shake without even flinching a little? Seems impossible, right? Well, the New York Yankees’ superstar Gleyber Torres has just made it possible!

Earlier today, New York was hit by a 4.8 magnitude earthquake. It’s quite rare for the East Coast to witness its ground shaking, but even rarer to see someone swinging his bat through it. While the entire Big Apple was terrified, the scenes inside the Yankees’ training facilities were utterly different. After watching Gleyber Torres, one felt confused – was the earthquake real, or were the Yankees living in a different dimension?

While that could be a cosmic idea for a Sci-Fi movie (Christopher Nolan incoming), it’s still fascinating to see the clip of Torres batting through the shakes. While for the Bronx Bombers fans, it’s just another humorous tale in the saga of Gleyber Torres. One wonders what the Toronto Blue Jays are thinking.

It seems the focus of the Yankees is so strong they’re ready to ignore any hardship that falls before them. That has resulted in a 6-1 record at the start of the season without even playing a single home game. Looking at the sheer focus of Torres, it seems like the Yankees are working hard to extend that win count as quickly as possible. 

Still, while an earthquake couldn’t stop the Yankees’ juggernaut, the Blue Jays can. After all, this is a rivalry that has grown in intensity. However, as of now, the Jays look a little behind the Yankees in the AL East standings.

New York Yankees vs the Toronto Blue Jays – Gleyber Torres to make an impact?

According to USAToday Sportsbookwire, the Yankees enter this series as a -162 favorite. That puts their win probability at around 61.8%. While they are approaching the series on the back of a 6-1 record, the Blue Jays’ start hasn’t been as electric. With a 3-4 record, they’re big underdogs heading into the game.

After a productive Spring Training, surprisingly, Gleyber Torres hasn’t had a fine season so far. With just 6 hits in 28 At-bats, he’d be looking to end that slump here. The inauspicious start may be why he disregarded the earthquake as if it were just a freight train passing by. Still, John Wick was called a ‘man of focus and sheer will.’ Perhaps Torres could be given a similar description.
