Alfred said“The greatest coach in American sports cemented his legacy in Green Bay, 1000 miles from here. Literally exactly 1000 miles from Yankee Stadium, Lambeau field. Then, as the head coach of the Packers took place right across the street from here at the old Yankee stadium.”

Additionally, he said, “One guy actually said without that, you know the super bowl trophy might not have even been called the Lombardi trophy.”

How did the Superbowl trophy got named after Lombardi?

The Vince Lombardi trophy is named after NFL coach Vince Lombardi. He guided the Green Bay Packers to Super Bowl victories in the first two games.

The Vince Lombardi Trophy stands 22 inches high and weighs seven pounds. Oscar Reidner, vice president of design at Tiffany & Co., designed it on a napkin in 1966 for the 1967 Super Bowl. Vince Lombardi, the former head coach of the Green Bay Packers, died of cancer in 1970.

But his legacy still stands to this day. It may not be the most valuable sports trophy in the world, but it is significant. And it is a tribute to America’s greatest coach.
