The Boston Red Sox have had an eventful off-season, to say the least. They lost their franchise player Xander Bogaerts as he signed an 11-year $280 million deal with the San Diego Padres. Furthermore, they have been criticized for not trying to replace Bogaerts with another star. But the Red Sox have been making some sneaky moves to add quality to their roster.

They recently signed veteran infielder Justin Turner to a 2-year deal reportedly worth approximately $22 million. The second year of the contract is a player option. This is a great signing for the Red Sox, and it appears that they had some help in recruiting Turner from a legendary NFL coach connected to Tom Brady.

You read that right! New England Patriots coach and sporting legend Bill Belichick helped the Boston Red Sox sign Turner. Belichick has coached the Patriots since 2000 and won 6 Super Bowl titles with Tom Brady. While speaking to Alanna Rizzo of MLB Network, Turner confirmed that Belichick had indeed messaged him. However, he didn’t want to talk about the details.

MLB Network shared a video of it on Twitter, quoting, “Before signing with the Red Sox, @redturn2 received a special text from a New England sports legend 🏈”. In the video, Turner said, “Yeah, yeah he did.” Thus confirming that Belichick had messaged him. But when asked about the details of the text, he refused to elaborate. Turner did mention that Belichick talked about how great Boston is as a sports town.
