When Shohei Ohtani diversified his field of involvement
Shohei Ohtani’s sponsorship deal with FTX made him the ambassador of both the company’s main exchange and its US branch. Ohtani’s tie-up with FTX was an advertising stunt to popularise the brand. Meanwhile, Tom Brady bought an equity stake in FTX Trading Ltd. and became an exchange ambassador. Meanwhile, Aaron Rodgers accepted a part of his salary in crypto and gave away $1 million in collaboration with Square App in 2021.

Speaking about the Ohtani deal and the whole scheme, CEO of FTX, Sam Bankman-Fried, said, “He’s obviously one of the most electric players in all of sports right now. We are hoping to have a similarly revolutionary impact on what fintech means and what personal finance apps look like. A big piece of this is we are trying to get a lot done in a quick period of time. We are really excited about the progress our business has made, but we are also very late to the game.”

Bankman-Fried added, saying, “We have a lot of catch-up to do in terms of our branding. We are really excited to give our partners a stake because it means we are aligned. As much as we are rooting for them on the field, hopefully they are rooting for us to do well in our arena. It would be a step towards building what we see as a holy grail of a unified financial experience for the consumer.”
The stellar playing career of Ohtani
Ohtani made his MLB debut with the Angels in 2018. He has a 28-14 win-loss record and a career total of 127 home runs to date. Ohtani is a two-time MLB All-Star player, and the first-ever to qualify both as a pitcher and batter.
