Nick Castellanos’ rocky run with the Phillies doesn’t seem to be ending anytime soon. And if anything, it’s getting messier. Even after his release, the drama has only escalated, this time pulling his wife, Jess, into the spotlight.

It started when reports surfaced that the Phillies had limited Castellanos’ access to spring training camp, which immediately set off speculation about his future with the team. Not long after, the club made it official and let him go. However, fans weren’t exactly shocked as most saw the writing on the wall.

But what really caught everyone off guard was a report from The Athletic detailing the heated behind-the-scenes between Castellanos and his manager. Result? Castellanos’ wife tried to share their side of the story, but even that wasn’t enough to calm things down.

“Let it go, girl.” Phillies loyalist Mike Damone said as insider Alex Coll shared a snapshot of The Athletic’s article.

Ever since Nick Castellanos’ faceoff with his manager last season, most of what fans heard was pretty surface-level stuff. That version was Castellanos was unhappy about being pulled from the field. At the time, the story seemed simple: he got into a brief argument with Rob Thompson, and the Phillies benched him the next game as a form of discipline. Not long after, reports said the two sat down, talked it out, and moved on.

But that version of events didn’t hold up for long.

Things took a turn when The Athletic dropped a deeper look at what was really going on behind the scenes!

According to the report, Castellanos felt disrespected almost from the moment he arrived in Philadelphia back in March 2022. He came in as a star player, but landed on a roster stacked with even bigger names, and that dynamic didn’t sit well with him. Whenever he felt he wasn’t being treated like a star, Castellanos pushed back.

So while the benching may have been the breaking point, the frustration had been building for quite a while.

Then came what is called the “beer gate” incident.

The report claims the $100 million outfielder cracked open a Presidente beer and walked into the Phillies’ dugout with it in the middle of a game. That too, in full view of everyone. Shocking! And the reaction was swift and brutal.

Jess Castellanos tried to step in and calm things down by posting explanations and pushback on X. However, it didn’t do much to slow the outrage. According to Coll, she eventually deleted her account altogether, possibly following Damone’s advice to step away from the noise.

So, what began as a game-related disagreement between a player and his manager ended up exploding into one of the biggest and most embarrassing scandals the Phillies have dealt with in recent years.

Castellanos’s response hints at a positive end

“To the people of the city, thank you for showing up these past four years—whether you were cheering or booing, you were there,” Nick Castellanos shared via his Instagram.

So, while his relationship with the Phillies clubhouse clearly grew strained, Castellanos’ message after his release sounded more like an olive branch than a breakup rant.

He wrote a four-page letter to the organization and its fans and shared the first page on Instagram. In it, he thanked ownership, staff, teammates, and the president of baseball operations, Dave Dombrowski. However, the opening page didn’t mention manager Rob Thomson. And we can understand!

Still, the tone suggested a truce and a desire to end things on a positive note. Here’s hoping both sides truly part on good terms, and that this divorce ends up being the right move for both the Phillies and Castellanos.
