The New York Yankees are flying in the AL East. With a division topping 33-15 record so far, the Yankees are setting the pace in MLB. What was called a relatively lackluster off-season behind them, the New York franchise has come to the fore with some superb performances. And star right-fielder Aaron Judge has led from the front. Although the Yankees have performed as a combined unit, Judge has shown true leadership.

Fans, however, will be sad to know that the talismanic hitter is in the final year of his contract before arbitration. And while he has on several occasions clarified that he is not interested in talks during the season, fans remain ever eager to see if he stays. Pundits have labeled this season as Aaron Judge taking a ‘gamble’. If they are to be trusted, he is betting on himself to perform well and get that extension sewn up. And so far, the gamble seems to be working.
Aaron Judge talks about the season so far
Candor was never Judge’s weak suit. Being completely honest about it, Judge said that the situation was not what it seemed like to the outside world. Said Judge, “It was no real gamble for me.”

The New York franchise drafted the prospect in 2013. And as if a testament to his commitment, has known no other home in MLB other than Yankee Stadium. “I’ve been here, I’ve been with the Yankees for six years now,” he said. “I’ve always tried to go out there and give it my all, play for my city, play for my teammates.”

Judge’s focus is still on team achievements
Saying what will surely relieve the Yankees fanbase, Judge aired his ambitions for the season. Focusing strongly on the Yankees’ team objectives, Judge cleared that personal laurels were not something he was after. Dismissing the pundits featuring his contract as center stage, Judge said, “People wanna talk about contracts and stuff, that’s not what I’m playing for.”

And Judge reiterated that the thrust of the 2022 season remains on winning for the New York Yankees. Although doubtless focusing on his performance, Judge has clarified that the team remains his aim. “I’m playing to bring a championship back here to New York” he added, “and if we’d figured something out and I’d signed a deal, I’d be a happy guy but I got a bigger thing to worry about right now.”
