While the Astros’ earlier attempt to get Arenado failed due to his no-trade clause, speculations mount as he seems to be inclined toward Houston. No surprise at all that it might change the Major League Baseball dynamics. But according to Bob Nightengale, this move does not make much sense.

Tbh, we all need to wait, as the ongoing trade discussions have not only emphasized Arenado’s interest in playing in a competitive environment but also indicated the strategic moves that the clubs are making this season.

Now, while the St. Louis Cardinals have been looking to trade Arenado for quite some time, Bob Nightengale on February 25 said, I don’t necessarily think that, you know, renewed trade talks either.” He mentioned his discussion with St. Louis people and John Mozeliak, their President of Baseball Operations, which implies that Arenado’s move doesn’t make sense at all.

Wonder why?

Well, Nolan Arenado was one of the best hitters and a great fielder. While he had a decent 2024 season, with a batting average of .272, scoring 16 home runs, with 71 RBIs, and a .719 OPS, at 33 years old, he is far from his best days. There’s uncertainty about how he may play in the upcoming two to three years. A big concern, indeed.

However, with the spring training going on and the Cardinals showing an apparent interest in moving Arenado, he has given a list of his preferred destinations – the Yankees, Red Sox, Astros, and Dodgers. Now, the situation is quite complicated.

Rumors are that one team has emerged to be a major contender—the New York Yankees!

The Yankees may be eyeing Nolan Arenado in a major trade idea

While the St. Louis Cardinals are yet to make a call, the New York Yankees are looking for an infielder, and Nolan Arenado may be the perfect choice.

The Yanks lost their infielder Gleyber Torres recently in the off-season, and they haven’t found any replacement yet. Given that the signing of Arenado will fill that gap, the Yankees can also have a better chance of recalibrating their competitive strategy effectively. But that’s not all!

The New York Yankees’ third baseman DJ LeMahieu has been out due to injury and looks to miss big time in the upcoming seasons. LeMahieu’s absence in the field paves the way for the Yankees to put an offer on Arenado’s table. And if everything goes right, Nolan Arenado might just waive his no-trade clause and join hands with the Bronx Bombers.

No doubt that Arenado’s .719 OPS was better than LeMahieu’s .527 – and well, numbers can’t lie, can they?

Although nothing is finalized yet, what do you think awaits Nolan Arenado? Care to chime in with your unique thoughts?
