Derek Jeter has always credited his parents for supporting his baseball career. The former Yankee never failed to show gratitude to his dad to push him to aspire to the big leagues. Dr. Sanderson Charles Jeter is a former substance abuse counselor who used to play baseball himself, in the same position as his son. Theirs was a baseball family and always supportive of Jeter’s dream if a little strict.

Jeter has said before how his parents were big on rules and how his upbringing was a little different from others. Aside from signing contracts for various things, Jeter’s dad also had a policy of never letting him win if he could make it so. Unlike most parents, who pretend to lose to their kids in games, Dr. Jeter had a different approach to things.

In an interview with GQ magazine, Captain Clutch referred to his dad’s policy. When asked about his daughters, the former Yankees captain said, “Let them win?! Not a chance. You don’t ever want your kids to think that achieving something is easy. People say winning feels good, but why does it feel good? Because it’s hard!”

During his days with the MLB, Jeter was a force to be reckoned with when he put his mind to something. He won, making it look easy, and considering his upbringing, it makes sense.
