Just two days ago, the Phillies expressed that they were open to the idea of trading Nick Castellanos this offseason. Although the slugger had a good few months in 2023, he also slumped badly. Per Mark Feinsand, “Streaky ways and a disappointing performance in the NLCS could result in an offseason change”. But ESPN’s Buster Olney has brought forth a contrasting opinion.

While he did well in the NL Wild Card and Division Series, Castellanos didn’t perform well in the Championship Series. Hitting just 0.42 in seven games could have hurt his chances but there’s a sudden twist. According to Olney, the Phillies consider the 31-year-old as “an important part of the team and value his production” and have “no intention of trading Castellanos.”

In 157 games, the outfielder slashed .272/.311/.476 with 29 home runs, 106 RBI, and 11 stolen bases. Not to mention the postseason surge, when Castellanos created MLB history by hitting multiple home runs in back-to-back games. Now, that the Phillies didn’t want to move on from the right-hander, the City of Brotherly Love can breathe easier.

Philadelphia Phillies fans heave a sigh of relief

Although the offseason is young, Philadelphia can find some measure of comfort in this latest report. While there were speculations of Nick Castellanos possibly rejoining his former team, the Cincinnati Reds, it seems like the slugger will stay in different team colors for now. Fans are as happy as can be.
