Every athlete dreams of playing on the highest stage and winning the biggest trophies. For some, success comes early, while others struggle to find it throughout their careers. But talented individuals usually get exactly what they deserve, even if the reward comes a little later in life. For a baseball player, a World Championship is the dream. There are some Major League Baseball players, however talented, that never won it. But in 2020, Clayton Kershaw finally did it with the Los Angeles Dodgers.

The 35-year-old pitcher won on the biggest stage in baseball in 2020 and he had some mixed feelings. The then-32-year-old player must have thought his time was running out. And now, a few years later, Kershaw is opening up about finally adding that notch to his belt.

Kershaw is well known as one of the best pitchers of his time. Having spent the entire 15 seasons of his career with the Dodgers so far, he has earned 9 All-Star selections as well as 3 Cy Young awards. Anyone would expect a player of his caliber to have won a World Series and at 32, he finally did it. Recently, Kershaw sat down with fellow teammate Mookie Betts to talk about what he was feeling at the time.

When Betts asked Kershaw to walk him through what was going on in his mind at the time, Kershaw noted that the outfielder had already won a ring in 2018 with the Boston Red Sox. “You’d already won one so you kind of knew. But I don’t think you realize the big rock on your back. You know, the big burden. Like I felt such an exhale, that was the first thing I felt,” Kershaw told Betts on the B/R Walkoff podcast.

The Dodgers have been struggling with their starting rotation, especially after losing Dustin May to the IL. Kershaw’s performance also suffered last week, when he returned to the plate just a few days after losing his mother. But team manager Dave Roberts recently said that Urias will work a bullpen session this weekend. His progress and whether or not he can return to play the regular season will be judged there.
