Convicted steroid distributor, Victor Conte, once got asked about his opinion of Barry Bonds by Graham Bensinger. Conte, like many others, echoed suspicion on Bonds’ steroid use. There were reflections on Bonds’ record-breaking success and the authenticity behind those achievements.
A legendary yet controversial baseball player, Barry Bonds played MLB for the Pittsburgh Pirates and later for the San Francisco Giants. Bonds’ superhuman batting strength and athletic defense made him a match-winner. While Victor Conte is the president of sports nutrition company BALCO and is also a former musician. Conte got arrested in 2005 after conviction on charges of steroid distribution and money laundering.

Concluding his playing career in 2007, Bonds retired from the baseball field with a humongous 762 career total home runs in his account. He scored 73 of those home runs in his sensational 2001 season. Thus rightfully earning the reputation of ‘Home Run King’. But upon pleading guilty to using steroids while playing, his legacy came under suspicion.

Victor Conte was once a guest on Graham Bensinger’s talk show. Based on Conte’s knowledge regarding steroids, Bensinger asked if such drugs enhanced Bonds’ physique and playing skills. Conte immediately cast his doubts.

Conte first made comparisons between Bonds’ initial physical build and his physique towards the later part of his career. According to Conte, the balance between bodily measurements was disproportionate and didn’t add up. In fact, Conte also said that he believes Bonds’ miraculous physical feats aren’t suddenly achievable, without drug usage.
Answering Bensinger’s queries, Conte stated, “Did he or didn’t he? Obviously, it’s highly suspicious that he could have been using performance-enhancing drugs. I just don’t have any direct knowledge of that.”

Conte further added stating, “I talked about with these other athletes for the same reasons, the increase in performances. To go from 49 to 73, the numbers. Of course, when you see that you’ve been playing for a long period of time and all of a sudden, here comes this giant improvement in performance. Is that suspicious? Yes, it is.”
Notes on the scandal
Some debates in sports are never ending and one such is Barry Bonds’ MLB Hall Of Fame snub.

His entire record came under the scanner of the doubt after he got indicted by a Federal Grand Jury in 2007. But at a time when his talent struggles with public refute, on the other hand, there are many critics who still consider Bonds to be a champion of the sport.
Barry Bonds belongs in the Hall of Fame. And if he's not there by the end of today, the museum has failed at its stated mission: preserve history.
