Derek Jeter won 5 World Series titles during his career, every one of them being with the New York Yankees. When the Yankees did not win, Jeter didn’t make excuses. He only focused on getting better and winning the next time. This sheer honesty with the game is what made him one of the greatest MLB players of all time.

But unlike Jeter, many MLB stars today don’t have that same mindset. In fact, some players even find excuses for not winning. Most recently, Jeter shared the excuse that irritates him the most when it comes to athletes explaining losing.

Derek Jeter gets irritated when athletes say that they want to join a team where they can win

Derek Jeter recently did an interview with GQ after being inducted into GQ Sports’ Style Hall Of Fame. During the interview, he talked about a variety of subjects, including winning. The Yankees icon also mentioned the thing that irritates him the most about athletes and winning. Jeter stated that he gets annoyed when athletes say that they have to join another team to win. He feels that this is just an excuse and that athletes just want the easy way out. 

In the GQ Interview, Jeter said, “One thing that always irritates me, when you hear athletes in any sport say, ‘Oh I wanna go somewhere where I can win.’ You can win right where you are. But you don’t just take the easy way out and say I wanna go somewhere I can win.”

Jeter was a class apart in terms of his loyalty toward the Yankees organization. Furthermore, he was always determined to perform to the best of his abilities on a consistent basis. He was not the most flashy player or the most powerful hitter. But Jeter excelled at being consistently great.

Derek Jeter didn’t always put up the biggest statistics. What made him great was his consistency over a 20-year career. He played 2747 career games and only missed more than half a season once in his career. Jeter had a batting average of .300 or higher 12 times in his career.

In addition to that, he hit more than 10 home runs 16 times in his career. All of these statistics and more point to the fact that Jeter performed well on an extremely consistent basis.
