Fresh-faced rookie Oswaldo Cabrera stepped into the field as the starting third baseman for the New York Yankees last year. And it’s a given that being on the big stage for the first time in his life would’ve certainly been daunting. The energy and the electrifying atmosphere of the game would have only been calming for the rookie because Aaron Judge was right alongside him.

Oswaldo Cabrera knows this feeling all too well. And to Cabrera, Judge is more than just a skilled athlete – he’s a leader and a role model. In his own words, “I love that guy so much, it’s not because he’s a good player, he’s a better person so. Outside of the field, you can see how that guy is so good and so everybody loves that guy. Leadership. He’s a mentor for me, so I’m glad to play with that guy.”

Judge’s influence has reached far and wide, even beyond Cabrera. The fresh-faced rookie’s skills were akin to Derek Jeter’s
Oswaldo Cabrera left a trail of awe and admiration in his wake after his few exceptional performances in the ballpark last season. The youngster’s plays were so impressive that they drew comparisons to another legendary New York Yankees’ captain, Derek Jeter.
Cabrera’s displays of skill were reminiscent of Jeter’s glory days. One particular play stands out in memory, where a soaring fly-ball hurtled towards him at a breakneck speed. Without missing a beat, Cabrera sprang into action, executing a powerful jump. In a lightning-quick movement, he snatched the ball out of the air and sent it flying back to the infield in a move that echoed Jeter’s memorable play in the 1998 season.
