Imagine playing your first MLB season for the New York Yankees. Then imagine winning the division, reaching the postseason, and getting a special mention during the Knicks-Pacer NBA game. That’s exactly what happened to the Venezuelan utility player Oswaldo Cabrera who made his MLB and Pinstripes debut in 2022.

Oswaldo Cabrera started off his major league career amidst a significant Yankee slump in August. Since then, the utility player has played 44 games, with 154 at-bats, 38 hits, and 6 home runs, with a batting average of 0.247.

Where did the Yankee utility player Oswaldo Cabrera go during his week off?

Notably, the Pinstripes qualified for the postseason, and are currently spending some leisure time as the wild-card round takes place. During his week off, Cabrera arrived at Madison Square Garden to watch the New York Knicks host the Indiana Pacers. During the game, the Yank received a special mention through a display on the Knicks’ big screen.

That moment would probably go down as one of the greatest prestige of his life. And fans reacted to this display of Cabrera on the big screen.

Despite losing six straight series in August, the Yanks conquered the Subway Series and clean swept the Mets, which brought them back on track to the postseason. And with a relatively competitive division, the Yanks managed to grab the East Division and made the postseason (Toronto Blue Jays and Tampa Bay Rays are both in the Wild Card Round).

Now, their next challenge is the World Series. The postseason has never been a problem for the Yanks – since 2009; they have made it to ten postseasons but still lack a World Series appearance.
