What had started off as a good day in the Bronx quickly turned into a full-blown nightmare. And for the New York Yankees fans, it was a kind of the worst type of déjà vu come true. Sunday’s game against the Athletics had what felt like the makings of a feel-good blowout. But by the time Cody Bellinger sent New York into the top of the sixth with a 10-1 lead, it looked like the Yankees might get an easy win. Right?

Well, if only it were that easy. Because if anything good was happening, it had Jazz Chisholm Jr. written all over it. A home run here, a three-run triple there, and a play at third that was stellar. The guy was simply fantastic. However, because the 2025 Yankees baseball can’t have nice things for long, things started unraveling quite drastically. First, JT Brubaker couldn’t lock it down. And suddenly, a 10-1 blowout was a 10-5 reality.

Then it took Jonathan Loaisiga bailing out of the bullpen and a highlight reel grab by Chisholm just to keep the game from slipping further off. But then came the moment no one really wanted to see.

In the bottom of the sixth, Jazz Chisholm tried to check his swing on a two-strike pitch. And instantly, he crumpled in pain and was clutching his wrist. He didn’t drop the bat, but his body told the entire story, and it looked bad. Eyes winced, he was completely tense, twisted, and in pain. The crowd went completely silent because this is the guy who has been the spark ever since returning from IL.

Chisholm rocked a .990 OPS and is doing everything needed to rev up an otherwise lifeless offense. And right now, just like that, the New York Yankees’ feel-good day turned into another complete, full-blown panic session. Further, there seems to be no word on the severity of the injury, if any. But just the sight of Chisholm in so much pain was enough to send chills through the Yankee Nation.

Just when it felt like the offense was waking up, the fear now is that the heartbeat might just have been sidelined. And fans are not taking it easy.

Jazz Chisholm Jr. sparks fear among New York Yankee fans

One user mentioned that Jazz Chisholm might have dislocated his bone. And honestly, watching the slow-mo didn’t help anyone; it only made most anxious. His wrist seemed to bend weirdly, and it looked like a break or a strain. Plus, given Chisholm’s previous injuries, from groin tightness to oblique strains, this looked like another chapter in the growing list of setbacks. However, miraculously, he came back laughing and even played it off. But the official word after proper inspection is yet to come.

A concerned fan mentioned hopefully, Jazz didn’t hurt his hamate. And this comment hits close to home for the New York Yankees fans who are still haunted by Andrew Benintendi’s injury in 2022. The image of Benintendi’s hooked hamate bone just snapping and derailing his season felt all too familiar. And for many, seeing Jazz Chisolm Jr.’s pain brought in that trauma right away. And with Chisholm Jr. carrying the offense since his return, the thought of losing him sent a jolt of fear across the Bronx.

Physical reaction to the scare, too, fans faced—as someone said, he wanted to vomit. And it’s understandable why one would feel so much. Chisholm Jr. is on fire. He is hitting over .320 in his last 10 games and racking up four RBIs in just this game alone before the injury scare. Since coming back from IL, he has injected life into the offense.

One person mentioned that Chisholm Jr. was made of glass. Ouch! But can you blame the Yankee fans? Honestly, things were looking so bright for them, and suddenly it looks like a mess. Now Judge is doing what he knows best. But that won’t be enough. It’s a team sport, and even if, like last time, Judge falls into a slump, the team would be in deep waters.

A fan mentioned that no fanbase has it worse. And, well, the baseball gods did make their case. While Chisholm was in pain, Oswald Peraza stepped up and struck out to end the sixth, killing all rally hopes. The irony is that Peraza would be the one getting more playing time if Chisholm went down. However, now all’s done and dusted, and until the official word comes on, fans can only wait and hope their heartbeat is safe.
