History may not repeat, but it rhymes. For the Yankee Nation, anything that rhymes is an improvement over their current situation. Instead of the New York Yankees dominating like they once did, the sport’s biggest franchise is barely hanging on. For 14 years, the ultimate prize has completely eluded the Pinstripes. What if someone suggested that history is replaying itself?

The Bronx Bombers have been on a journey since they last won the World Series in 2009. The long ordeal has seen them not only fail to win but fail to even be in the Fall Classic. But with the 2024 season right around the corner and the team improving itself by quite a lot, things look good. Especially as the “universe” might be sending some signs as well.

Patterns emerge and so do the hopes for the New York Yankees

2024 could be special for the Yankees for more than one reason. The events leading up to this year coincide with two of the most significant events in the Bronx’s history – 1977 and 2009. But they both follow a pattern that is coinciding with the Yankees currently.

For instance, the 1977 World Series came 15 years after their last win in 1962. What is 15 years after 2009? Yep, it’s 2024. So this year they’ll either relive history or get closer to their longest drought since the 1962. But it’s 2009 that’s more interesting as the similarities are just uncanny across the board.

Before winning the World Series in 2009, the Yankees had experienced confused times. In 2007, Alex Rodriguez won the MVP award, then in 2008 the Yankees didn’t even make the playoffs. Does it sound familiar? It does! But why? Oh yes! This is exactly what has happened in the past two years. Aaron Judge won the MVP award in 2022 and the Yankees failed to qualify for the playoffs in 2023. So that makes 2024 doubly important.

15 years after the Yankees’ last World Series and also following the script of 2009 – could this year be the one the Pinstripes are waiting for? Honestly, this could be wishful thinking, but if it happens, it’ll be a great story. The current team does look good enough as well.

Why the Pinstripes can make it happen

The Yankees have strengthened their squad across the board. By adding Juan Soto and Alex Verdugo, the team has turned its Achilles heel into a vibranium shield. Carlos Rodon looks healthier, Marcus Stroman looks hungrier, and Giancarlo Stanton has fire in his eyes. This Pinstripe squad has a lot to prove, and that’s almost always a recipe for success.

Barring injuries, this team has the quality of going deep into the playoffs and once you reach that stage, anything can happen. But with things looking so perfectly lined up, a little nudge could push this Yankees team towards no. 28.
