Derek Jeter’s love for baseball was like no other. His passion and love for the game were reflected in the stunning plays he displayed on the field for the world to see. And in the end, his legacy was cemented in Cooperstown among the greats of the game. The former New York Yankees captain shone like a blazing star under the stadium lights and he still shines to this day in the Hall of Fame.

Being an athlete who was inducted into the hallowed halls in the first year of eligibility, he was asked a question that has been on the minds of baseball fans and athletes alike. Do legendary players, like Barry Bonds, who have been associated with PEDs, have the credibility to be inducted into the hallowed grounds of the baseball Hall of Fame? This was asked a while back, but the former captain’s response was one that wasn’t expected – a thoughtful pause, followed by a carefully crafted reply.

The interviewer pressed him for a more definitive stance. But the former Yankee captain remained elusive. He was not giving a straight answer, yes, but perhaps it was because he understood that some issues cannot be distilled into a simple and straightforward answer.

In his docuseries, ‘The Captain’ which premiered last year, Jeter talked about the moment when he found out about the mistake A-Rod had made. He called the situation “another distraction.” He didn’t want to be a part of the scandal at all, even during the press conference that the New York Yankees had while Rodriguez made an apology. Perhaps he doesn’t want to give an opinion on something that could dampen his spirit even thinking about it.
