Team USA has had an up-and-down World Baseball Classic with a number of close encounters during the tournament. But their star players have come through with big performances and won them these close games. Most recently, the Philadelphia Phillies superstar Trea Turner helped Team USA beat Venezuela in a nail-biting thriller. With this win, the Mike Trout-led team has secured their place in the semifinals.

When talking about the game, in the top of the 8th inning, Team USA was down by 7-5 in the game, and at once, it looked like Venezuela would advance to the Semifinals. But the Phillies’ $300 million signing was the difference, as his incredible play took the Team USA home in the death.

Trea Turner hit an 8th-inning Grand Slam to help Team USA beat Venezuela

The Philadelphia Phillies star Trea Turner just got one of the biggest hits of the World Baseball Classic. In the top of the 8th inning, he came out to bat with bases loaded and Team USA trailing 7-5. He faced two strikes before smashing a go-ahead Grand Slam for his nation. The hit helped Team USA regain the lead and win the game. Fox Sports: MLB shared a video of the massive moment on Twitter. 

In the Tweet, Fox Sports: MLB said, “TREA TURNER GRAND SLAM!!! ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!?!” Team USA moves on to the semifinals on the back of a truly clutch hit. Turner saved his team from what would have been a crushing defeat and a disappointing exit from the WBC.

Fans credited Turner for the hit. They even said that he should run for president and called him an American hero.

This is a huge tournament-defining moment as Team USA progress to the semifinals. They will face a strong Cuba side who has won some very big games. It’ll be interesting to see how they perform and whether the American team can progress to the finals. 

Team USA and Japan are the favorites to win it all

Going into the World Baseball Classic, there were 4 or 5 favorites to win the tournament. But now, only two of them remain in Japan and Team USA. Japan, led by Shohei Ohtani, has played some fantastic baseball throughout the tournament. Team USA, on the other hand, had an up-and-down group stage, suffering an embarrassing loss to Mexico. But they have rallied behind big plays from their stars and earned a semifinal spot.
