What was supposed to be a normal summer afternoon, full of cheers, hits, and fun with the young baseball players, turned really ugly in Rosemead. A youth baseball game spiraled into a sea of violence on August 24, as the umpire and the assistant coach exchanged words and even punches. It absolutely shocked the families and children, who were gathered around to watch the tournament.

The incident began when the assistant coach time and again argued over a disputed call with the umpire. Then after multiple warnings, he was ejected from the game. But the real fight happened because the coach spat at the umpire’s face! This unleashed a red-hot situation, as the umpire then dragged the coach to the ground and kicked him. This was happening just feet away with young players there—the ones who were meant to learn and be guided by them.
Former MLB veteran Frye Daddy detested the situation and condemned it in strong terms, saying, “We are failing our kids! Parents and coaches are supposed to be setting the example for our kids of how to behave! This isn’t it!!!”

His words absolutely captured the rage that ripped through the youth baseball community. Because this is adults letting their emotions come in heavy when they were meant to be leading these future ML B players by example. Parents and neighbors who had witnessed the incident also echoed the same frustration as Frye. Resident Alejandro Alfaro said, “I think it’s unacceptable that he was doing that in front of little kids, 12-year-olds.” Another community member mentioned, “I feel like, just every adult, in general, you’re taking care of a team. You should be a leader, an example.”

The umpire didn’t want to get on the cameras. Don De Grazia is one man who spoke from the umpire side, “He’s an exceptional young man. He served in the military. He’s a professional athlete himself. When you feel threatened, instincts just come into play.” He also mentioned that the umpire gave several warnings before ejecting the coach. Even the tournament organizer, Herman Baca, confirmed that both men were immediately removed from the game. And now deputies from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department have cited both of them for misdemeanors. Now the play had resumed after the brawl, but well, the image of grown men fighting in front of children has left a lasting mark—and not the good kind.
Joe Kelly reveals bizarre Little League incident, calls it – messy!
The above is not the only bizarre Little League incident that has made headlines. Just a few months back, former Boston Red Sox reliever Joe Kelly shared a wild story from the Little League field. The 2018 World Series champion joined the Foul Territory podcast, and he opened up about how he would love to rejoin the Dodgers bullpen. But then things took an unexpected turn when he revealed he was bopped in the forehead while he was coaching his kid’s game.
Kelly shared, “I don’t know if you saw this the other day, but I got bopped on the forehead by a fan. I had to go to the sheriff’s office after the game. We stopped the game, and they said, ‘You guys can forfeit to take a win.’ I said no.” Now, even Kelly is known for his fiery personality, including that infamous 2018 fight with the Yankees. However, he didn’t fight back.

Instead, Kelly mentioned, “The manager on the other team’s sibling came over and bopped me in the forehead. So I had a private arrest and (currently) waiting on a court date,” Co-host of the podcast A.J. Pierzynski asked if it shocked him that someone would go after him; Kelly mentioned that youth sports have become messy. “But yes, he had the (expletive) to go after me while I was sitting on my bucket… Youth sports (has become) a mess in general, dude.” Well, one thing is for sure: adults are not acting like adults, and this is as messy as it can get. And as far as Kelly goes, this was not as dangerous a territory then the one he got into with his wife!
Do you think youth sports need stricter rules in place?
