The Chicago White Sox might be at the bottom of the AL list with 23-50. But they are now at the top of the trending charts, and it has nothing to do with how many games they have won or lost. The most startling shouts of the season are coming from an unexpected place: Vatican City. And it’s from none other than Pope Leo XIV.

It’s more than when he wore the White Sox Cap proudly on June 11 and shocked the MLB fraternity. Pope Leo XIV was passing through the crowd. A familiar chant began to swell. “White Sox! White Sox! White Sox!” Then, the impossible happened.

Pope Leo XIV joined in with a sparkle in his eye and a slight nod. Since then, not only the crowd on the streets but also the online chant has started.

Looks like Pope Leo XIV is REALLY a die-hard White Sox fan. First, the cap, and then the chants! And how can we forget his speech on Saturday?

At a packed mass at White Sox Park on June 14, the jumbotron lit up with a touching video from Pope Leo XIV. This was the first time he spoke directly to the US citizens since his election in May. He talked on faith, hope, and love, telling young people to be “beacons of hope” via service, community, and God’s healing mercy. The message hit home, tying his spiritual quest into the field and setting the stage for even more amazing moments.

Surely, his support means a lot for the franchise, and even the skipper knows it. Will Venable acknowledged, “Yeah, I mean, it’s great. I love the support. Need it.”

Moments after the video hit social media, fans, as usual, got excited and couldn’t stop sharing their thoughts.

What’s your perspective on:

Can Pope Leo XIV's support turn the White Sox's luck around, or is it just wishful thinking?

A holy rollercoaster for the White Sox: Fans react with shock and awe

Each reaction showed how new and surprising it was to watch the spiritual leader show off his love for American sports in such a passionate way. A joyful delight, “Never thought we’d ever see a pope with a fandom for baseball lol.” This remark highlights what echoed through millions of minds.

No sarcasm, no sugarcoating, just a simple, unadulterated reaction. “This is so awesome.” Nothing extravagant there, but this made a strong remark. We crave pleasant, feel-good stuff. It’s not like every day you see such moments.

Despite those moments, a reality check came in. “Does he know the White Sox are terrible?” The struggles of the White Sox are in the open. But the Pope is not someone who has professed his support for the club now. He attended Game 1 of the 2005 World Series. He has always been a loyal fan!
