Rafael Devers of the Red Sox stands tall as the team’s only true cornerstone player in the 2023 season. Devers has consistently proven himself as a reliable and valuable asset, delivering standout performances game after game. Yet the Red Sox front office hasn’t signed the star third baseman to a long-term contract. And this is something that Red Sox fans are not enjoying the most.
Not to forget that the Red Sox are yet to make a notable signing this year. And Devers’ one-year extension has just created a rage among the Red Sox fans. Notably, if the Red Sox does not sign Devers on a long-term contract before the end of the 2023 season, he will enter free agency.

Despite the excitement and anticipation surrounding the possibility of a long-term contract extension, the two sides have instead agreed to a one-year deal.
Third baseman Rafael Devers and the Boston Red Sox are in agreement on a one-year, $17.5 million deal to avoid arbitration, sources tell ESPN.
This does not stop the sides from reaching a long-term contract extension. The fact that the sides got this deal done shows discussions.
