The sassy, endearing Taylor from The Summer I Turned Pretty traded the beaches of Cousins for the stands of Dodger Stadium this Friday. That was the best game she could have gone to. It was the same night when Shohei Ohtani turned in one of his best all-around games as a two-way player. Making it a grand finale to remember, the two-way phenom slammed three soaring home runs at the plate while also striking out 10 over six-plus scoreless innings. While this was Rain Spencer’s first major baseball outing that grabbed attention, she’s not the only cast member with a love for the sport.

Sean Kaufman, aka Steven Conklin, also caught an October game earlier this month, when the Yankees took Game 3 from the Blue Jays. However, nothing tops the thrill of Friday night.
With Spencer in attendance, Dodgers star Shohei Ohtani went utterly dominant on both sides of the ball. Sporting Dodgers gear, Spencer summed up the night as many fans experienced it. “I think I’m just having, like, a moment. I’m having, like, a Dodgers moment,” she said.

Of course. After all, the Dodgers got off to a blazing start as Ohtani struck out three batters after a leadoff walk in the top of the first. Out of those, two strikeouts came on triple-digit fastballs, establishing him as the first Dodgers starter since 2008 to record multiple postseason strikeouts on pitches over 100 mph.

However, just as Major League Baseball’s official X account shared the news of Rain Spencer’s presence on X, they got trolled over trying to ride the hype of The Summer I Turned Pretty. And well, this isn’t even the first time it’s happened.
Earlier this month, when MLB posted clips of Sean Kaufman at Yankee Stadium, fans reacted similarly, saying it didn’t feel relevant to them. But these are Amazon Prime’s biggest hits we’re talking about. This season alone, TSITP’s cast members have made multiple appearances at MLB games.
Before Spencer, Kaufman attended Game 3 of the ALDS, marking his second ballpark appearance this season. Earlier, he was spotted at a Yankees–Red Sox game in August alongside our own Conrad Fisher. But for now, fans are calling out MLB for trying to ride The Summer I Turned Pretty hype.

MLB drew mixed reactions from fans after posting about Rain Spencer’s presence at Dodger Stadium
MLB’s post celebrating The Summer I Turned Pretty actress Rain Spencer was mocked by many. “No one cares,” said one fan. Some fans felt like the shift toward pop culture figures dilutes the focus on the sport itself. This was more or less the same reaction from hardcore MLB fans when Sean Kaufman, aka Steven Conklin, was present at Yankee Stadium and shared by MLB.
While others defended MLB on this. “People annoyed at MLB posting this should check the ratings Summer I Turned Pretty had; it was huge for Prime.” Jenny Han’s TSITP Season 3 reached 70 million viewers within 70 days. Well, Cameron Gidari, VP, social media and innovation for MLB, which has been posting about the show on its socials since August, perfectly summed up the real hype behind the show.
“What really excites us in social is that fandom is a universal language, whether or not you are a fan of a baseball team or a TV show, or a musician. This show is having watch parties [where] you’re team Conrad or you’re team Jeremiah, so a lot of the instinct and the behavior is really similar to that of a sports fan.” He said.
For those of you who don’t know, Connie Baby, aka Conrad Fisher, carried a Boston Red Sox backpack in episode 8 of season 3. In fact, Chris Briney is a huge Red Sox fan, and the Red Sox are proudly Team Conrad. Yet, the league’s core fanbase found little reason to care that Rain Spencer was in attendance. “OMG! This is, like, totally like, a pointless post 💕😐.” Another fan quipped. The fan here basically pulled a “Taylor”—sarcastic and dramatic—all while he was a little disheartened that MLB is also in on the obsession now.
More such reactions were rained on X. “Silly post. @MLB Did Rain Spencer’s publicist put you up to this?” The fan here perceived the celebrity-sports crossovers as promotional stunts. But well, Rain Spencer has spent significant time in Los Angeles. She moved there when she was only eight years old. She could really be a big-time Dodger fan!
