Alex Bregman is expectedly the best free agent available now. Do you agree? Well, with a .768 OPS in his 2024 season, he is definitely worth it. This shortstop can undoubtedly provide a great value addition to the Boston Red Sox. But only in January 2023, they extended their contract with Rafael Devers for $313 million. So, could they afford to sign another big star?

Other than monetary issues, another concern is the lineup. Both Bregman and Devers play at 3B. Hence, taking in the Silver Slugger to the team would mean changing the team’s rotation. Is Boston ready to take that risk? The word out there is that with the club’s not-upto-the-mark performance last season, they could use the skills of Alex Bregman.

Alex Bregman seems to be a logical fit for Boston

“Logically, right now, if you had to guess, my guesses would be Bregman to Boston,” as per top MLB insider Ken Rosenthal. He also adds, “They need a right-handed bat, they needed that since the, well, last season. And Bregman can play second base for them or they can play him in 3rd and move Devers over to first or DH him and have him in some combination with Triston Casas.”

The two-time All-Star, Breggy, is reportedly looking for something around or above a $200 million deal to enter this Major League Baseball season. Given that he already rejected a six-year $156 million contract from the Houston Astros, evidently, he is expecting top-tier pay. Remember the rivalry the Red Sox had with the Astros, where Alex Bregman humiliated Fenway Park with a 1.245 career OPS?  Well, now, they could surely use these skills.

Is the Boston Red Sox still dicey?

To be fair, they might be! The 3-time All-Star Rafael Devers has been playing as a third baseman throughout his 8-year career. With 143 hits and .871 OPS, he plays well in his current position. And signing Bregman might not necessarily mean changing Rafael’s position. But even though Alex is ready to move to 2B, would he be a good fit? Well, previously, in his career, he has played in this position and has proven his skills.

“It seems that second base is the more logical destination for Bregman if he goes there,” expresses Ken Rosenthal. The Red Sox could surely use a talented right-hander to get into a better position than their present 17th ERA. The 30ft Green Monster at Fenway Park’s 310ft area could play in favor of Alex Bregman, hitting more home runs and fewer strikeouts. So, making a few here-and-there in Boston’s lineup might be risky, but worth the move.

A-Breg’s 9 years of experience, his 2x World Series victories, and his winning mentality could lift up the team. He could be a leader for the young squad. What do you think?
