Fenway Sports Group is well-known for focusing on long-term profits and making data-driven decisions. However, their recent choice to associate with a controversial company has rubbed both Red Sox and Liverpool fans the wrong way.

The Red Sox fan podcast Pod on Lansdowne shared a visual on X showing a Palantir logo displayed on a billboard at Fenway Park.

The picture was originally posted by the X account NolanMH34. It racked up nearly 2.5 million views at the time of writing. Even the comments section became more of a forum for Boston to air their frustration with Fenway Sports Group.

For the record, the Red Sox won’t be back on the field at Fenway for a few more months. Yet, some sharp-eyed fans have already spotted the change above the Green Monster scoreboard as Winter Meetings approach.

Many Red Sox fans voiced their outrage over what first appeared to be a sponsorship. Some even contacted Red Sox fan services to seek clarification.

Eventually, they discovered that Palantir was actually sponsoring the U.S. Coast Guard Academy.

While fan services confirmed that Palantir is not a Red Sox, that didn’t make things any better. Fans remain upset that Fenway Sports Group would be linked, even indirectly, to a company with such a controversial reputation. Palantir builds software platforms for analyzing data.

On the surface, this might seem harmless. But many find the tech company controversial and potentially harmful, primarily due to the way its technology is utilized and the ethical concerns surrounding its operations.

Even though the sponsorship only lasted for one game, the fact that FSG even considered running such an ad has left most fans unsettled. Any form of brief endorsement is enough to leave a mark on FSG’s reputation.

Certainly, the Red Sox as a team aren’t linked to Palantir. Yet, their parent company’s actions are concerning.

Meanwhile, with Fenway Fest returning to Boston this winter, hopefully, fans can put this controversy behind them and enjoy the event.

In addition to panels featuring players and coaches, the festival will offer self-guided tours of Fenway Park, including the home and visitor clubhouses, as well as a glimpse inside the Green Monster.

Other key attractions: face painting, a caricaturist, interactive games, live entertainment, and exhibits highlighting memorable moments from Red Sox history.

NESN and WEEI will provide live coverage throughout the event.

Tickets for Fenway Fest are priced at $85 for adults and $35 for children 14 and under, with season ticket holders receiving discounted rates of $75 for adults and $30 for children. Kids under two can attend for free. Each ticket also comes with a voucher for a 2026 Red Sox home game in April or May.
