Being a Red Sox fan right now is tough. Why? Because during the regular season, they had the Yankees’ number, winning 9 out of 14 games, and even took the first game of the Wild Card series. But then they stumbled in the last two games and couldn’t make it to the ALDS. So, after dominating all season, they couldn’t deliver when it mattered most.

If you remember, just last month, Papelbon didn’t hold back about the Red Sox’s issues. He said, “You’re looking at a team with a LOT of questions, in my opinion,” and pointed out that their biggest problem was errors.

Reportedly, in the regular season, the Sox had racked up 115 errors, which was a huge lead over every other team. And if that wasn’t worrying enough, the other teams near the bottom in errors are the Rockies and White Sox. They also happen to have the two worst records in the league. Sure enough, what Papelbon warned about came true in the Wild Card series.
So, you can understand why he might figure backing the Yankees for the rest of the postseason was the safer bet, but for Red Sox fans? That’s an absolute dealbreaker.
The Red Sox fans are having a meltdown
Jonathan Papelbon’s decision to rally behind the Yankees for the World Series is seen by some as a betrayal to Red Sox fans. “I’ve never felt more betrayed in my entire life,” one fan commented. Well, we still remember the “Curse of the Bambino.” The original heartbreak was that Babe Ruth was sold to the Yankees, a move that haunted the Sox for decades.

And for generations of Red Sox fans, this is the ultimate betrayal. But the time has come to change the status quo among the Red Sox fans. “¿Cómo así, rey?” added another, wondering about how their beloved veteran could have done this.
“Look how they massacred my boy,” one fan shared the same emotion as the Red Sox veteran. While most fans assume that Papelbon has changed his side, this might be a case of injury. “This hurts more than the Bryce Harper fight?” another added.
Yes, the unexpected loss to the Yankees could have hurt both Papelbon and the fans more than his infamous fight with Bryce Harper back in 2015. The dugout fight between the two with the Nationals remains one of the most talked-about moments in recent MLB history. That highlighted the intense emotions and pressures that can arise within a team.
“I think someone hacked Papelbum’s Twitter/X account,” another fan is still skeptical if Papelbon himself changed his profile picture. Well, his account may get hacked, but till now, there’s no confirmation from the Red Sox veteran. So, the Red Sox fan wishes that this is not Papelbon who is doing it, but let’s have a reality check here.
