Ask anyone and they’ll say the same thing: playing for consecutive days is the toughest thing to do in baseball. But when those days go up to 17 days, one can imagine just how much pressure a team feels. Currently, the New York Yankees are going through this ordeal. This is a tough situation for a team that is already suffering from a depleted bullpen. However, Aaron Boone feels relaxed, at least after his squad’s latest display.

In a dominating 15-3 win over the Milwaukee Brewers, the Yankees’ hitters exploded onto the scene. With 4 homers hit, it was an extravagant display of power by the Bronx Bombers. However, the role of their pitching was equally important. With Carlos Rodon putting up another impressive display, the Yankees’ pitching staff had a comfortable day. That’s a rarity in these tough situations—something that Boone noted.

“Carlos going six innings and only having to fill two innings. We’ve passed a pretty efficient two innings there so a reset for the bullpen,” Boone said in his postgame interview. “You know, those are like gold especially when you’re in the middle of a 17 in a row. Anytime you can preserve the pen in a day, definitely nice thing.”

Carlos Rodon has been slowly turning into the ace that the Yankees paid him to be. This game was no different. The pitcher limited the Brewers to just 1 run on two hits during his six innings pitched. Rodon struck out his season-high eight hitters and walked just one. Overall, his performance set the tone for the rest of the bullpen.

On top of that, the bullpen only had to pitch two innings. With Jose Trevino pitching the last one, it turned out to be another memorable moment for Yankees fans.

The New York Yankees pitching springs a surprise

With the New York Yankees sitting on a 14-run lead, Aaron Boone looked around the squad for a pitcher. The skipper’s eyes stopped at Jose Trevino, who immediately took up the opportunity. Though this was Trevino’s first career pitching appearance, the catcher has dazzled his teammates before with his knuckleball. However, this time he didn’t do the same.

That left the squad a little disappointed. “I think he needed to go to the knuckleball a little more,” said Alex Verdugo (via MLB.com)“…His dances a lot, so it’d be fun to see him throw a handful of those.”

Still, it was a memorable moment for the fans. The images of Trevino standing on the mound quickly went viral. Could Trevino get another chance to pitch? That’s certainly something that the fans and the Yankees squad are hoping for.
