Ever since making his MLB debut with the Los Angeles Angels in 2017, Shohei Ohtani hasn’t looked back. Although there were injury issues and a couple of bumpy seasons, the two-way phenom has been easily the best player in the league for a couple of years. While baseball fans got to witness Ohtani’s greatness after his MLB debut only, a resurfaced tweet over a decade old has put everyone in disbelief.

This post has resurfaced at a time when several teams are vying for his signature in the upcoming free agency. Furthermore, he is playing some inspired baseball and helping carry the Angels to a potential postseason berth. The Tweet comes as a shock considering how long ago someone recognized his talent.

Bleacher Report took to Twitter and shared this tweet that was written on August 5th, 2012. Twitter user ‘The Draftnik’ tagged then-Mets GM Sandy Alderson urging him to sign the then-18-year-old Ohtani. But as is widely known, he ended up signing with the Angels in 2017 and debuting in the 2018 season.

In the Tweet, Bleacher Report said, “This fan tweeted at the Mets GM to sign Ohtani in 2012”. They further said, “He wasn’t signed by an MLB team until 2017. (via @draftniks)” This reported Mets fan was a truly early believer in the Ohtani hype.
