And it’s because of a resurfacing image of the Yankees legend, dating back to his childhood and sporting his favorite MLB team merchandise.

The throwback image of Jeter shows him donning a New York Yankees jacket. The young Yankee was trying his hand at skiing. Though his exact age in that image is unknown, he was a Yankees fan right since he began following MLB. Interestingly, he even dreamt of playing MLB for the Yankees.

Derek Jeter: A lifelong Yankee from time immemorial to eternity 

Although Derek Jeter was born in New Jersey, he grew up for the most part in Michigan. He began playing baseball in the little league when he was just five years old. During vacations, he would always go back to visit his grandparents in New Jersey. And that is when he began watching MLB games with his grandfather and ultimately became a Yankees supporter.

The Bronx Zoo Network recently posted the throwback image on their Twitter account, quoting, “Dreams Do Come True: A young Derek Jeter on the slopes in his Yankees’ jacket.” Interestingly, speaking about his love for the Yankees, Jeter once said, “Obviously, the pinstripes stood out first and foremost. I think when you’re young, it’s a visual love affair. And it was (Dave) Winfield. Big Dave was my guy, you know.”

Jeter added, saying, “I thought he was larger than life. But, you know, those were the years – Donny (Don Mattingly), you know, Willie Randolph. We used to watch all the highlights. So, I tried to learn as much as I could about the past Yankee teams, and I just couldn’t think of a better organization to play for.”

Notably, Jeter’s dream turned into reality in 1992, as he got drafted by the Yankees out of high school. Thus, in 1995, he made his MLB debut for the Yankees as the shortstop. The list of accolades began soon thereafter as he won the American League Rookie of the Year Award in 1996. He became one of the greatest shortstops in MLB history, remaining a Yankees loyalist until retirement in 2014.

How did Derek Jeter navigate his MLB career? 

Achieving one respectable feat after another, Jeter became a 14-time MLB All-Star player. Remarkably, he won five World Series championships with the Yankees. He wrapped up his career with 260 home runs and 3,465 hits, averaging 0.310. Jeter’s services got duly honored post-retirement, with a jersey retirement ceremony and Hall of Fame induction.
