The day was May 15, 1991, and players were all lined up to greet the Queen at the Memorial Stadium in Baltimore. And Athletics pitcher, Dave Stewart, wanted to greet her highness in a way that she would remember for a long time.

Britain’s longest reigning monarch, Queen Elizabeth II, passed away peacefully at the age of 96 at her Balmoral Castle in Scotland. The late queen has left a deep impact all over the world. It also includes the time when her highness and Prince Philip came to the USA for a two-week tour. There, she went to see the first baseball match between the Baltimore Orioles, and Oakland Athletics, with the then-President, George H.W. Bush, and first lady, Barbara Bush.

What did Dave Stewart say to the Queen while greeting her?
While talking about her majesty, Dave said that he remembered the day as if it was just yesterday and not three decades ago.?

“I remember like it was yesterday. We were all lined up to meet her in that procession,”?the pitcher said.

Continuing, he said,?“So Three Stooges was one my favorite comedies. ? So when she passed (in line), I did like a Three Stooges thing: ‘Queenie, nyuk nyuk.’ She laughed. Well, cracked a smile. ? Put it like that. The rest of the team was cracking up. It was cool for me. I’m sure it was for everybody too, but I had to go act like a god-dang fool.”

To say that Steward did a good job trying to make the Queen smile would not be wrong. He wanted to do it, he did it, and he was successful at it.

How did the fans react after interacting with the Queen?
The royal couple did not stay longer than the second inning, but that time left an impact on the people present there.
One of the fans said, “It was just an experience, I’ll probably never be able to see her again that close.”

Another one was telling his son that it was a pretty special thing for the Queen to be there, but his son probably did not understand it then. He said,?“I was just telling my son that this is history taking place, that he doesn’t quite understand what a wonderful thing it is that the queen is here.”
