Shohei Ohtani is a newlywed man, spending time with his wife. However, Ohtani also happens to be a baseball megastar who is getting paid $700 million to play for the Los Angeles Dodgers. As a result, the weight of responsibilities has forced the two-way phenom to stay away from Mamiko. While that is a necessary sacrifice, it has given Ohtani a chance to make a cute comment about their relationship.

Ohtanit’s wife, Mamiko Tanaka, has been seen attending his home games while remaining conspicuously absent from the away games. This isn’t surprising because baseball players travel extensively around the country; a tough job for any person. So how have Ohtani and Mamiko been dealing with this separation? More importantly, what is it that he misses the most? Shohei Ohtani answered these questions during one of his pre-game interviews.

Interviewers asked Ohtani about Mamiko, and he affirmed that she wasn’t present. Later, he was asked whether he wanted to take Tanaka out and spend time with her. Here, Ohtani revealed the struggle that he faces due to his constant travels, claiming, “We don’t have that many days off yet, and we (the Dodgers) basically travel quite a lot on our days off. We just go for walks together and things like that, but we haven’t had many full days off at home yet, and I don’t think we’ll be going out for a full day yet,” Ohtani said. Moreover, Shotime further added a rather interesting take.

Expressing his thoughts, Shohei Ohtani said, “I want (my wife) to say that she’s lonely/misses me.” So, while Ohtani didn’t answer whether he was lonely, he did give Tanaka a romantic swoon by asking her to miss him. Moreover, the superstar had a shy laugh after saying that. However, when one looks at the kind of form Ohtani is in, perhaps Tanaka won’t mind missing time with her husband. Certainly, his on-field performance is making this distance worth it.

Is there something new in Shohei Ohtani’s training?

From hitting a 118.7 mph rocket to consistently getting hits, Ohtani has been doing it all for the Dodgers. Currently, the two-way phenom leads the team in multiple fields. However, Shotime is working on something new during his training sessions. Recently, pictures emerged of Shohei Ohtani doing outfield work. That’s quite amazing for a player who, until recently, was not making any throws due to his elbow surgery.

Even more interesting was the fact that Ohtani was practicing as a left-fielder. While one wonders whether that was just him having fun, could the Dodgers use their superstar in the outfield? That certainly isn’t something new, Ohtani has played a few games in outfield for the Los Angeles Angels.

Still, while the superstar is busy improving his baseball skills, perhaps there’s a feeling of yearning, somewhere in his mind. At least the fans think that he does. What’s your take on Ohtani balancing his professional and personal life? Let us know in the comments.
