The World Baseball Classic has provided fans with excitement, fantastic play, and lots of emotions and actions throughout the tournament. Samurai Japan has beaten Team USA 3-2 in a battle of the juggernauts. Shohei Ohtani, Munetaka Murakami, and Kazuma Okamoto gave Japan clutch performances. Throughout the game, the Japanese side looked in control, with effective pitching limiting Team USA’s offense.

When Kyle Schwarber hit a massive home run in the 8th inning, it seemed like Team USA gained momentum. But thanks to Ohtani’s brilliance in the 9th inning, Team Japan clinched the title. Although the entire game had fans on the edge, the bottom 9th was the one moment every single baseball fan waited to happen the entire tournament. Yes! The showdown between Shohei Ohtani vs Mike Trout was probably the biggest highlight of the game.

Shohei Ohtani struck out Angels teammate Mike Trout to bring Japan the World Baseball Classic win

It was the bottom of the 9th inning and two outs on the board. Shohei Ohtani pitching for Japan and Mike Trout batting for Team USA. The showdown that every baseball fan was waiting for. Japan was up on USA 3-2 and Ohtani made sure it stayed that way, getting Trout out on a full-count strikeout. The two-way sensation came up with a clutch closing inning, ending a 7-year relief drought. Furthermore, he helped bring home the World Baseball Classic title for Japan. ESPN’s Jeff Passan reported the result via Twitter.

In a Tweet, he said, “FINAL: Japan 3, United States 2”. Passan further said, “Samurai Japan is the World Baseball Classic champion. We’ll remember plenty, but nothing more than Shohei Ohtani vs. Mike Trout, which ended on a full-count slider that Trout swung through for strike three. What a game. What a tournament.”

This was a monumental end to an exciting WBC tournament. There were ups and downs, but one thing was constant: Japan winning their games. The Samurai’s ended the tournament unbeaten, only suffering a close call against Mexico. But Ohtani and his dependable teammates have brought home the title.
