The last few days have been all about Shohei Ohtani. First, his $700 million contract, then later his induction watched by 70 million live, and, subsequently, a revelation that his dog’s name made Ohtani a talking point. The Two Way Phenom got all the attention, with no other athlete in the competition. However, that seems to be changing with competition knocking at the door in the form of his home country star, Jung Hoo Lee. “Bet you didn’t know Jung Hoo Lee comes with a plus-one 🐶”

Notably, the 25-year-old outfielder has become the latest entrant to the MLB but has won hearts with his pro-activeness in building connections. Now, it feels like there is no end to that cycle, with Lee giving another reason to love him. Incidentally, after introducing himself as the grandson of the wind, the Japanese sensation has brought him to competition with Ohtani, revealing his furry friend Kao pulling away the eyes of cute ‘Decoy’.

Playing in the MLB is a dream for Japanese players. But given that only a few can make it to the big stage, scrutiny follows. It also puts them in competition with fellow countrymen already playing in the league. The same seems to be the case with Jung Hoo Lee, who will now compete with Shohei Ohtani. Though, on money terms, they are on an uneven field, Lee has made sure that the battle for the ‘best furry buddy’ remains intact, and his Instagram post a proof of it.

Days after Ohtani revealed his dog’s name, who made a cameo in his MLB interview, Lee has put up a challenge with a dedicated post for his friend Kao. It brought up a question: Which is cuter among these two furry pals, Decoy and Kao? Deciding the cuteness factor between the two furry companions may be subjective, one thing is confirmed: the 2024 season will see healthy competition between the two Ohtani and Lee!

It has been pitching, where the Japanese players have mostly competed against each other. It has given Shohei Ohtani a free run due to a lack on the offensive front. But that can change, with Jung Hoo Lee joining the NL West rivals, the San Francisco Giants. Notably, the two know each other as WBC teammates, but the battle would be different in the league.

With Lee coming on a multi-year $113 million contract, he will look to justify the trust with an MVP outing. This will put him in direct competition with Ohtani, who will look to justify the exponential increase in worth even after the injury. With both competing in the same division and league, the rivalry will heat up more, of which one has already seen a glimpse in the battle for cute dogs. What do you think?
