Having professionally played baseball for a significant amount of time, two-way sensation Shohei Ohtani has proved himself to be a versatile asset to both Japan and the USA. Fulfilling his duties for his hometown, Ohtani took part in the World Baseball Classic 2023 from Japan. Notably, he won over Team USA, captained by his teammate from the LA Angels, Mike Trout. With this win, Ohtani showed that he is headed toward greatness in the game of baseball.

Now, for his awe-inspiring play for team Japan and leading them to win, the country has appreciated the player. They did so by bestowing upon him one of the top honors of the country.

What did Japan honor Shohei Ohtani with?

On April 28, Japan announced the names of the citizens they’d be honoring in the 2023 spring conferment of decorations. It’s the ceremony that takes place twice in one year. Also, it is one of the top honors provided to any citizen for their outstanding contributions to society in the fields of sports, academia, and arts.

And quite fittingly, Shohei Ohtani, leading the team Japan to win at WBC 2023 is indeed one of them. Hence, the Japanese government announced that they’ll be honoring the team Japan with a medal having a purple ribbon. However, Ohtani, being the focused athlete he is, said about receiving this honor, “It’s an honor. I’m currently in the season, so I want to focus on baseball.”

Seems like not even one of the topmost honor from his home country can sway Ohtani from doing his job as an athlete.
