Shohei Ohtani Makes Progress in Pitching Recovery, Inches Toward Mound Return

During the 2023 season, Shohei Ohtani injured his UCL, shocking the baseball world. Following thorough consultations, the Japanese star stopped pitching, with a procedure postponed to after the season. During the off-season, the Japanese star got his procedure and began the road to recovery. 

Now, a week or so into the season, Ohtani is recovering as he makes an impact in the DH role. Most recently, he continued progressing in his recovery, a massive positive for the Dodgers as he inches closer to full health.

In recent weeks, Shohei Ohtani has continued to make progress while rehabilitating his injured UCL. This has included sessions of catch as well. Most recently, the Dodgers star took part in what was reportedly his 5th session of throwing amidst a strict recovery program. This took place shortly before the LA team’s game against the Chicago Cubs today. 

A video of the session was shared on X(formerly known as Twitter. Ohtani seemed to have a smile on his face during the throwing session. The video showcased the Japanese star playing catch with a form similar to his pitching motion but at a reduced speed. Regardless of this, it is a step forward.

The Dodgers would likely welcome a quick recovery, although they are likely to be careful while bringing back their $700 million star. Many pitchers have aggravated injures by returning earlier than necessary. But the Japanese star is taking a careful approach alongside the Dodgers. In addition to this throwing progress, Ohtani is also seeing improvement in his batting.

Shohei Ohtani recently smashed his first home run of the season, breaking an 8-game drought that left fans uneasy. Despite breaking the deadlock, Ohtani is still frustrated. The Dodgers star is looking to continue getting big hits and helping his team win. The expectations are high, with his historic $700 million price tag.
