Every time fans think Shohei Ohtani couldn’t possibly impress them more, the Japanese two-way phenom proves them wrong. Each game he plays in, whether pitching or hitting, gives the Los Angeles Angels a chance to get into history books. Now, only if Ohtani and his superstar teammate Mike Trout could translate their personal success into wins for the team.

Most recently, the two-way phenom impressed the MLB sphere with his brilliance from the plate. However, even that was not enough for the Phil Nevin-led team to register a win against the in-form Texas Rangers.

AL home run leader Shohei Ohtani breaks Statcast records

During the third game of their four-game series in Arlington, Shohei Ohtani once again proved his prowess behind a bat. He is often compared to baseball legend Babe Ruth, but many think the Japanese player has long surpassed him. Currently leading the American League home run chart, Ohtani hit his 21st homer against the Rangers in the ninth. But The Unicorn hitting long balls is nothing new. What was truly amazing about this particular hit was the stats.

Leaving the bat at 116.1 MPH, Ohtani launched the ball at 453 feet to the left-center field. He is the first player to hit a 450+ foot home run at this exit velocity by a left-handed hitter in the Statcast era. His two home runs the day before against Texas were already impressive, but Ohtani keeps leaving everyone in awe.

What’s truly fascinating about the Japanese player is how he seems to rack up stats like they’re nothing. While of course, he goes through slumps too, Ohtani currently leads MLB in bWAR & fWAR, as well as Total Bases (161) and stolen bases (10). In addition to leading the AL in home runs, he also leads the division in OPS (.987) and Extra Base Hits (37).
