History has a funny way of repeating itself, especially at Angel Stadium for Anaheim. Around the same time, at the same stadium, last year, the Los Angeles Angels were 11-0 down against the Seattle Mariners. That’s when, presumably, by accident, the fireworks went off and lit up the sky without any cause for celebration. Yes, if anything, the Angels were being dismantled by the Mariners. This time, just the dynamics have changed, but the Angels’ poorly run operations stayed the same.
On Saturday, against the Arizona Diamondbacks, Angel Stadium’s fireworks lit up just when Diamondbacks’ star Eugenio Suarez crushed his second home run of the night.
Just in case you missed the catch, we got you. You should know that the Angels’ signature outfield celebration was triggered after Suarez, a rival team slugger, pulled off a stunner. It’s probably a fitting irony between last year and this year’s instance.

The fans, naturally, booed in unison at the obvious misfire. To top it all off, Suarez’s home run was his 31st of the 2025 season. It was a big feat for him and the D-backs. After all, he joins the company of other home run leaders of the league. Suarez is now ranked 4th in the league, as he trails only Shohei Ohtani, Aaron Judge, and Cal Raleigh.
However, for Angels, the firework mishap was just as embarrassing. But that was only until they shifted the winning odds in their favor during the eighth inning and notched the 10-5 win. With Saturday’s loss, the Diamondbacks are now 46-50 after losing three consecutive games to the Angels.
Ultimately, Suarez’s two-run homer did add to his milestone, but couldn’t lift the D-backs. Speaking of milestones, Suarez will make his second All-Star appearance this time. However, he won’t be participating in the Home Run Derby. “Being in the All-Star Game, for me, already means a lot,” he said.
For now, it’s neither Suarez’s home run record nor the Angels’ sweep of the D-backs that has grabbed the attention. It’s Angel Stadium’s malfunction that has led the fans to troll the franchise brutally.
What’s your perspective on:
Fireworks for a rival's homer—are the Angels' operations team the real MVPs of comedy?
Have an interesting take?
Social media lit up faster than the Angels’ fireworks.
You know the drill. When the Angels’ signature outfield celebration was accidentally done for Suarez, it immediately went viral. Fans were quick to troll the operations team and the Angels as a whole. Some were quick to point out the consequences of the mishap. “Someone’s getting fired over that.” Their firework mishaps have now happened twice in two seasons. Pair it with their overall poorly run game day operations. For example, just last season, their management greeted visitors with a super long line. Until the third inning of the game, many fans were still waiting to get in.
Another fan noted, “Didn’t they do this before 🤔?” To refresh your memory, yes, they did something very similar last season. Exactly during mid-July, when they went up against the Mariners, the fireworks went off without any reason. It was even more embarrassing than this time because that day, the Angels lost brutally to the Mariners 11-0.

Others, interestingly, had their theories. “Do they know something we don’t?? Is Suarez getting traded here😂” Apparently, the trade buzz involving third baseman Eugenio Suarez is on. It doesn’t seem like the Diamondbacks will deal with the Angels. However, at this trade deadline, he will be one of the most coveted position players.
Others subtly showed a mirror to the Angels. “I mean, you got extra fireworks lying around… You might as well celebrate someone.” Well, as of now, the Angels are 5-5 across the last 10 games. It’s neither good nor bad. However, they need to stack up more wins to celebrate themselves.
Another hilarious possibility of the firework malfunction: “They’re just big fans of his.”Why not? After his 31st home run record, Suarez is in his sixth 30-homer season. Overall, he’s delivering exceptionally as a D-Back. It wouldn’t exactly be surprising if the Angels are a big fan of Suarez.
