However, his ability to read the game and act accordingly was something that made Jeter a great asset to the Pinstripes. Although the Yankees did not win their fourth championship in a row, Derek Jeter did something so incredible that baseball fans still get goosebumps after watching his play. While playing against the Oakland Athletics, Derek Jeter made an unbelievable play that possibly defined his career.

Notably, Jeter had made an incredible flip at the shortstop position to grab the ball and pass it to the Yankees catcher, Jorge Posada, to dismiss Jeremy Giambi.

New York Yankees were playing in the 2001 season as the defending champions. Having won three consecutive World Series between 1998 and 2000, the Yankees were chasing their fourth championship in a row.
When talking about the series, the Athletics were just a win away from winning the 2001 ALDS and knocking the defending champions out of the post-season. But Jeter?s iconic flip proved to be the deciding factor in the entire series.

After that play, not only did the Yankees win the 3rd game, but they also went on to win the rest two games, and win the ALDS 3-2.
