With baseball reporting for Spring Training, the 2023 MLB regular season is not that far away, starting on March 30. MLB teams are gearing up with their preparation to make a run for the Fall Classic. The National League’s New York Mets is one of those teams getting ready with their star-studded roster to come off as the best. As they do so, during live batting practice, the Mets’ baseman Pete Alonso faced his new teammate, Kodai Senga, who is infamous for his ghost forkball. 

The three-time NPB all-star pitcher is about to make his MLB debut with the Mets in the upcoming season and is already off to a great start. The Mets ace Senga is all set to leave hitters speechless as he did Alonso with his infamous pitching skill.

Kodai Senga’s forkball left Pete Alonso clueless

For those unversed, a forkball is a pitch where the pitcher holds the ball with their index and middle finger and has enough space between them that makes their shape look like a fork. The pitch has the ability to go much faster than other types of pitches, thereby becoming one of the most feared pitches of all.

Senga’s signature pitch, somewhat around a decade ago, got the name ‘ghost fork.’ The pitch got this name as Senga threw the pitch blazingly so that the batters would say the ball had disappeared. And most recently, Alonso faced the notorious ‘ghost forkball’ during live batting practice in front of the team’s owner, Steve Cohen. 

After getting struck out twice by Senga, Alonso said about the pitch, “I don’t really have anything to base it off. It’s like its own pitch. It’s a pretty good one.” While answering the shape of the pitch, he said, “I don’t know. That’s why it’s the ghost pitch.” On the other hand, when Senga learned about Polar Bear’s admission of his pitch, he laughed it off, then said, “This is ghost.”

Mets fans are now relieved!

Notably, the fans loved both Alonso and Senga’s reactions and were relieved that Senga would be playing for them.
