But that hadn’t always been the case. As a child, Derek Jeter sported a unique haircut, but it wasn’t by choice – the former New York Yankees shortstop blamed his father for the peculiar style. Recently, Jeter sat down with GQ Sports to break down his iconic looks over the years.
Who styled Derek Jeter as a kid?
It’s been almost a decade since Derek Jeter decided to hang up his cleats, but he is becoming popular yet again by getting inducted into the Sports Style Hall of Fame – a new club by the GQ magazine. In an interview with them, he revealed the story behind his childhood hairdo.
He was shown a picture of himself when he was a kid and asked, “Who styled you right here?” Jeter, laughing, said, “That’s all me right there. I mean there’s nowhere to go but downhill after that. Butterfly collar. I do have to get on my dad a little bit, he used to cut my hair back in the day”

He gestured to the photo smiling, and continued, “So he’s responsible for this. I don’t really know what you call it. That should be a cover right there! I like that picture though.”
