In 2014, a 20-year era came to an end when Derek Jeter announced his retirement from baseball. There was an outpouring of emotions and support for the New York Yankees’ legendary captain as he played his final year. But in his docuseries, “The Captain” Jeter revealed a brutal business aspect to his retirement.

Jeter has clarified that he decided to retire because of the work needed to prepare for his last season. Injuries had caught up to the legend and were making it increasingly difficult for him to rehab. But there was a business aspect behind his retirement as well.

Derek Jeter felt like he was forced out by the Yankees
In his docuseries, “The Captain”, Derek Jeter revisits all the major moments in his career. The former Yankees superstar went into detail about a number of topics, including his retirement. In episode 6 of the docuseries, Jeter revealed that while retiring he felt pushed out by the Yankees. Furthermore, the former captain also mentioned that old age and declining performance played a part in it. It seemed to be a brutal business move by the Yankees organization.

Jeter said, “Back then I thought that as players they didn’t appreciate what we’ve done for the organization. A lot of us were somewhat forced out. That’s how we felt as players back then.” This is a stunning insight into Jeter’s retirement as he talked about many variables that influenced his decision.

But according to his wife, Hannah Jeter, when Derek had a conversation with her, he seemed ready for retirement. Since stepping away from the game, the Yankees’ legendary shortstop has worked a lot on his different business ventures. Furthermore, retirement has allowed him to spend more time with his three daughters.

Jeter is enjoying retirement and being a girl dad
Although there may have been some sadness when stepped away from baseball, Derek Jeter is thoroughly enjoying retirement. The Yankees legend is spending lots of time with his family and is specifically enjoying being a father. Jeter has shared updates about his three daughters on social media and allowed fans a little more access to his personal life. He is also enjoying his various business ventures and will also do some MLB analyst work for FOX this year.
