Celebrations have gained popularity in baseball. Over the last couple of years, home run celebrations have become increasingly popular. Most teams have some sort of dugout tradition that they do after every home run. These include wearing cool hats or carrying amazing props to celebrate the big hit. Most recently, the Washington Nationals introduced their own home run celebration, with fans having mixed reactions.
The Nationals are in the midst of a full-on rebuild following the blockbuster Juan Soto trade. They are among MLB’s worst teams and will continue to be that as their young prospects develop. Their new home run celebration has taken away the fans’ attention, with many supporters unhappy.

Although the Nationals are struggling to win games in the NL East, their new home run celebration has impressed fans. The team broke out their new celebration against the Chicago Cubs in their most recent game. Nationals outfielder Lan Thomas smashed a home run against the Cubs before proceeding to put on a white powdered wig and wave a small American flag while running down the dugout. This is in honor of the USA’s history and is a patriotic home run celebration. The Nationals shared a video highlighting their new home run festivity.

In a Tweet, they said, “*Star-Spangled Banner intensifies*”. This is an apt celebration for the team based in USA’s capital. It brings some fun and creativity to a Nationals team that is losing a lot of games.

It will be interesting to see if the team sticks with this celebration or they change it as the season progresses. But the Nationals are not the only team to introduce new festivities to celebrate home runs. In fact, there have been multiple teams to do so this year.
Many teams have introduced new home run celebrations
This season, home run celebrations have gone to the next level. Multiple teams have thought of new props and other ways to celebrate a homer. The Los Angeles Angels are using a samurai helmet to celebrate. Whereas, the Seattle Mariners have brought out a trident for their big hits. Most recently, the Atlanta Braves faced problems over their home run celebration. But these are just to name a few.
