Baseball legend Derek Jeter and actress Minka Kelly were together for three years. But then, they suddenly parted ways. The breakup shocked everyone who knew of the celebrity pairing.

Retired baseball legend and New York Yankees icon Derek Jeter has a history of starry romantic affairs. One such fling happens to be with model and actress Minka Kelly. The actress gained prominence from the television series, ‘Friday Night Lights’.

Derek Jeter and Minka Kelly dated each other for three years. After which, Jeter announced their split all of a sudden. Kelly, however, was sort of taken by surprise, at the news of the breakup. It all seemed more of a decision taken alone by Derek Jeter.

Derek Jeter and Minka Kelly started dating each other in 2008. The relationship seemed peaceful and was as quiet as Jeter always preferred his love relationships to be. But just a month after making a public appearance in 2011, they broke up.

When Jeter and Kelly began dating, Kelly was a model turned actress with an impressive portfolio. She hogged the limelight in the popular television series Friday Night Lights. But she rose to stardom after acting in Charlie’s Angels, another television series. That co-incidentally was towards the end of their relationship.

A source close to Minka Kelly, stated in an interview saying, “They kept their relationship very, very quiet—there are no rumors of cheating, nothing. And Minka is handling this the way she handles everything, she’s a down-to-earth, real person, a sweetheart, and this took her by surprise. This is Derek’s doing for the most part. If you look back at his relationships, as some of the girls started to rise in fame, that’s when they broke up.”

The source added that though the couple was in love, marrying soon was not on the cards. Both were more focused on their personal careers. So while coping with the demands of their high-profile jobs, their love life lost dedication.

Life after the split

Despite breaking up, Derek Jeter and Minka Kelly were open to a possible reconciliation in the future. But that was not to be. Kelly went on to date actor Jesse Williams, later followed by dating comedian Trevor Noah. While none of those relationships worked for long, Kelly is now single. Whereas, Jeter married supermodel Hannah Davis and has three daughters.
