The only MLB franchise who had won the World Series in three different home cities, Atlanta Braves, suffered a defeat last night. From four runs down to triumph over the Braves, Detroit Tigers won the game with a score of 6-5 in a thrilling 10-inning game. The game happened at Comerica Park. This was indeed not an ordinary win.

This win was significant as it marked the end of the Tigers’ (27-37) nine-game losing streak, their lengthiest since 2020. It was an impressive win considering the Braves’ (40-26) dominant position as the first-place team. They won seven of their previous eight games, sending shockwaves throughout the MLB world.

A baseball fan club, Talkin’ Baseball, put up a post on their Twitter handle, saying, “THE DETROIT TIGERS HAVE WON A GAME IN JUNE.” The tweet contains a video of the last hit by Andy Ibanez. The player had three hits, including the winning homer.

Before the ball could even touch the ground, the players roared with excitement while the audience and commentators cheered in enthusiasm. As soon as the tweet went live, fans from different walks of life put forward their reactions to the Tigers’ victorious moment.

Since this game broke the 9-game skid of the Tigers, fans gave mixed reactions ranging from mocking Braves and appreciating Tigers. Some of them, even believed that it was never gonna happen.

One fan related this impressive win with the incredible victory of Tigers in the ’84 World Series championship.

 

Apart from fans uniting to celebrate, the victory held significance for breaking the losing streak. The game took a turning point when Spencer Torkelson came into play. He ignited a ninth-inning comeback by driving a two-run homer against Raisel Iglesias, and he sealed the game with a decisive single in the 10th inning, propelling Detroit to a 6-5 victory over the Atlanta Braves. This triumph not only put an end to the Tigers’ nine-game losing streak but also resonates with the Detroit Tigers’ 84’ Win.

Detroit Tigers 84 World Series win 

In 1901, Detroit Tigers entered the American League. After 83 years, The Tigers defeated the San Diego Padres in the 1984 World Series by 4-1. In a 162-game season, this 84 win was the franchise’s best season both in terms of overall wins of 104 and a win percentage of .624. During the series, the Tigers led the American League Eastern Division wire-to-wire. Although the season opened with 9-0, the game eventually reached the peak of 35–5 after 40 games.
